VIDEO — See Johnny Weir’s Hilarious Reaction to Tara Lipinski Surprising Him Before He’s Camera-Ready

People: The figure skating commentators for NBC, Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir, are as well known for their over-the-top, elaborate on-air style as they are their accessible skating insight. They take every look very seriously, meticulously coordinating their outfits and rocking intricate beauty looks (Weir calls his hairstyles “amazing artistic structures” on top of his head). So what happens when Lipinski tries to catch Weir off-duty chilling in his hotel room? Find out when she walked in on him before he was camera-ready!

In a silly (and sneaky) Instagram video, Lipinski told her followers that she missed having an adjoining room with Weir. So to cure her case of #FOMO, she decided to take a walk over to his room to see what he was up to.

The Olympics Are Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski’s Runway

The Cut: Oh, excuse me, did you incorrectly assume the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang were about sportsmanship, ice dancing siblings, and athletic drama? Because if so, you’d be dead wrong. In reality the games exist for one reason and one reason only: to showcase the wardrobes of NBC correspondents Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir.

The duo recently told the New York Times that they arrived in South Korea with what us mere mortals would consider an insane amount of luggage for a two week trip: 13 suitcases for Weir and 9 suitcases for Lipinski. But as they explained to People, the pair never wear the same thing twice during the Olympics. “And so we brought everything,” Lipinski said. And it shows.

Evaluating NBC’s Olympics Coverage at the Halfway Mark

Sports Illustrated: NBC Sports Chairman Mark Lazarus addressed some questions viewers have have had regarding NBC’s coverage of the PyeongChang Games. Lazarus spoke to Sports Illustrated for 30 minutes on Sunday afternoon (Monday morning his time) from his office at the International Broadcasting Centre in PyeongChang.

SI: You made a huge investment in Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir a couple of years ago to make them your No. 1 figure skating team. That decision has proven to be wise. They are the rare sports broadcasting team who has gotten near-universal praise for their work. How satisfying is it for you to see them excelling in what is the most important Olympic sport for NBC, at least on viewership terms?

Lazarus: Tara and Johnny are exceptional broadcasters and I don’t want to leave out [host] Terry Gannon who I think is a key part of that trio because of the role he plays in keeping everything moving in a good direction. They are pleasing to the viewers, they have fun, they are fun and they have a little bit of flamboyance coming through the television. But when you listen to their analysis, that is what separates them and makes them so good. They are just very insightful and honest and direct. We are very pleased. We think they are very good for our audience.
